Knick-Knacks

I have stumbled upon some really great deals and decorative pieces lately. Thank goodness for sale ads :).

I was so excited when I discovered this new store called "Garden Ridge". They have everything you could possibly need to decorate your home at a really great price. I found this lovely rug for $50. It is 4'11 x 7'7'' and if you ask me, that is the perfect size for underneath a coffee table or ottoman.
A teacher can never have enough chalkboards (World Market $4.99).
I thought they were so cute, maybe for the fireplace mantel (Michaels $1.97).
I wanted a decorative and creative way to store my coffee, simply because my hand is always scooping from that jar. It even has a crafty chalkboard that you can personalize on the front (Michaels $5.99).
One of my favorite pieces. Kirkland's wall clock for $49.99.
I thought this lamp was perfect for my little, lakeside home. It has these small seashells all around the base of the lamp. Originally $29.99, on sale for $10.00 from T.J. Maxx.

The Disaster Before......and Clean up After

Here is the juicy stuff that everyone wants to see, the "before" and "after". This project is ongoing, but I figured the photo documenting of the "before" will put a little fire under my butt to create the "afters".

Before: The "unique" fixture found above my kitchen table...
After: I found this steal-of-a-deal at World Market for $34.99 just yesterday! It originally was $69.99. I love a good deal and it will fit perfectly with my "beachy meets rustic" look that I am trying to create.
Before: The staple of the 80's...plastic, plank style blinds.
After: Another World Market favorite, although not as good of a deal as my lamp :(. However, if you sign up to become a World Market member you can get weekly coupons and deals sent via email to help curb the price.
Before: Thank you mom and dad...
After: The temporary fix until I find the perfect couch.
Before: I wish I had an "after" for these next two photos. However, I have made it my summer goal to replace these eclectic floors.
I call this one, "Welcome to the Brady Bunch".

First Post!

One of my 2013 New Year's resolutions was to start blogging more (meaning on my classroom site....whoops!). However, spring break has crept along and I felt inspired to start yet another project/blog. As many of my friends and family know, I purchased and moved into my very first home in July of 2011. It was....well how do I put it, an exciting and fearful experience all rolled into one. I moved many miles away from family and friends and took on a home that needed a whole lot of "TLC". This blog is designed to document and share all the exciting projects, deals, and disasters that I encounter while transforming my first house into a home :).
